7 Dog Food Brands to
Never Buy For Your Dog In 2019
Dogs are not just pets, but part of our lives. Every dog
owner wishes to take best possible care of his dog. The most important aspect
of dog care is the choice of food. There are n numbers of dog food brands
available in the market. But every dog is different and needs different kind of
food to stay fit and healthy. The choice of right dog food depends upon the
type of dog you own and the ingredients of the food.
In an attempt to make it affordable, various dog food brands
adds ingredients which do not possess any nutritional value or sometime harmful
chemicals. These ingredients will deteriorate your pet’s health over time and
sometimes may lead to diseases like cancer, obesity, etc. Based on the ingredients,
their nutritional value and harmful contents in them, we have taken out 7 dog
food brands that you should never buy for your dog this year.
1. Purnia Dog Chow
It is manufactured and marketed by Nestle
Purina PetCare Company. They have a range of dog food brands for small, large,
adult dogs as well as for puppies. Although it’s a well-known brand and a lot
of people buy it as it is cheaper and looks good, but it has some questionable
ingredients which make it risky for dogs.
The top 5 ingredients include Whole grain
corn, Animal fat, Meat and bone meal, Soybean meal and Corn gluten meal. These
ingredients can be hard for dog to digest and are non-nutritious. They contain
controversial fillers which are of no use and may harm the health of the pet in
long run. Purina Dog Chow has been recalled a couple of time also.
2. Ol’ Roy Dog Food
This dog food brand is easily available in
Warmart stores and regrettably a number of people buy it. But it contains
certain ingredients that are not up to the mark. The problematic ingredients
include ground yellow corn, soybean meal, meat and bone meal, poultry
by-product meal, brewer’s rice, corn gluten meal, wheat middling, artificial
flavours, artificial colours and artificial preservatives.
Ol’ Roy dog food comes at an affordable
price which itself rings an alarm. Also some ingredients may cause allergies in
dogs which may be difficult to cure. There has been many recalls to the brand
because of its doubtful ingredients.
3. Pedigree® Complete Nutrition Adult Dry Dog
Food
It is a renowned dog food brand owned by
Mars Pet Care. It is quite popular among pet owners and made a good image with
advertisement and branding. It is available for diffent dogs like adults,
puppies, and different food for different breed of dogs and so on.
But when you look at the ingredients, it
contains various inexpensive fillers, artificial addictives and by-products. The
questionable ingredients include poultry by-product meal, ground whole grain
corn, corn gluten meal, soybean meal, ground whole grain heat, brewers rice,
artificial colours, meat and bone meal, artificial preservatives and artificial
flavours. There has been recalls for this product for containing metal
fragments, plastic pieces and salmonella contamination.
4. Kibbles ‘n Bits® Home-style Grilled Beef
& Vegetable Flavours Dog Food
Being the fifth largest dog food brand, it
is highly popular and a choice of many. The company Big Heart Pet Brands
produces various dry and wet food products under this name. It is supposed to
give ‘joy in every bite’. But it doesn’t seem to be joyful at all. It contains
corn as the first ingredient which in not at all good for dogs.
The problematic ingredients comprises of corn,
wheat flour, soybean meal, soy flour, corn syrup, wheat middling, meat by-products,
animal digest, soy protein concentrate, artificial colours, artificial
preservatives and artificial flavours. It is cheap because of its low quality
ingredients that are carb heavy. There has been recalls for the product in the
history because of non-nutritive fillers.
5. Purina Alpo
Another low quality product from Purina
brand which promised flavourful, meat-rich dog foods. Again it has corn which can be detrimental if
fed for long to the dogs. There have been reports that it may enhance allergies
if the dog is already infected.
The ingredients which may cause problem
include soy flour, meat by-products, ground yellow corn, meat and bone meal,
corn gluten meal, animal digest, artificial flavours, artificial colours and
artificial preservatives. There has been major recalls to the product due to
its low quality.
6. Diamond
A high quality dog food at low price is
next to impossible. Schell & Kampeter owns and produces the Diamond Pet
Food Company and guarantees super premium products. Although it does not
contain any artificial flavours and preservatives, still heavy use of corn,
wheat, and soy makes it extremely carb heavy and not good for dog’s overall
health.
The doubtful ingredients include whole
grain ground corn, wheat flour, rice bran, poultry by-product meal, meat meal
and corn gluten meal. There has been several recalls to the procuts since last
many years.
7. Twin Pet
It is an adult dog food and one of the
worst products. It has extremely low protein level and does not contain any
fruits or vegetables. It contains various cheap and contentious ingredients.
It includes ingredients like wheat middling,
ground yellow corn, meat and bone meal, salt, animal fat and natural flavour
which look problematic. They are considered to have lower digestibility and
very low nutritional values.
All these dog food brands are renowned and
bestsellers, but are worst for your pet’s health. There are many other dog
foods available in the market which are healthy and makes your pet happy. The
overall combination of protein in the food is highly important and should be
considered while selecting a dog food brand. The good one may be a bit
expensive but they will give full nourishment to your beloved dog. You should
not compromised on health to money. You can ask your pet or visit a specialty
pet store to find out what is best for your dog according to its breed and
type.
