Malala Yousafzai is an inspiration for many. The brave hearted school girl from Pakistan's Swat region stood for what she believed in - the right for education. And got shot for it by the Taliban. It all started when one girl spoke out against the austere rule of Taliban in Swat Valley. She refused to be silent when her right to education was threatened and ultimately had to pay a price for it. On October 9, 2012 she was shot in the head at point blank range while returning home from school. Not many expected her to survive. But as Walt Whitman said, "Every moment of light and dark is a miracle", Malala recovered miraculously. Her recovery took her from the remote area of Northern Pakistan to the halls of the United Nations.
At the age of 16, Malala is a global role model. She is also the youngest ever nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize.
